The campaign for Peter Thirlwall to be Rotherham's Independent Member of Parliament.
"Be Part of the Future! Not the Past! - Together, Let's Change Rotherham for Good!"
"I stand for Rotherham, I make no apologies for having pride in Rotherham. I will speak up at every opportunity for Rotherham and it's people". Peter Thirlwall
I am enthusiastic and energetic local representative. I am a former local government officer and engineer, now retired. I live in Wickersley, with my wife, Jean. My 4 children are now grown up and I have 3 lovely grandchildren. I have lived and worked in Rotherham most of my life. I am a local Borough and Parish Councillor, serving the people of Wickersley as an Independent. (Wickersley Ward covers the areas of Wickersley, Bramley, Flanderwell and Sunnyside) During my working life, I have always been active in the Trades Union movement where as well as being a shop steward was also the Education Officer and Health and Safety Officer for the Rotherham Branch of NALGO. In 1979 I joined the Labour Party and left it in 2008 when I realised that the Labour Council had no real interest in serving the people of Rotherham, only themselves. Since being elected as a Borough Councillor in 2002 I have worked hard to improve the quality of life of those in the Wickersley Ward and Rotherham as a whole. Whilst representing Wickersley Ward I have pledged to: Lobby for stricter measures to control anti-social behaviour. Help provide facilities for our young people. Campaign for more money to clean up the environment. Work with you to reduce parking and traffic problems. Continue my campaign against off street motorcycling. Publish my home telephone number (01709 541111) and I hold regular surgeries. My current commitments in addition include: Member of the Community Union. Member of Wickersley Parish Council. I am a member of the Economic Regeneration Scrutiny Panel. Member of Wickersley Working Mens Club Member of the Hospital Teaching Service Management Committee. I have also been a school governor at a number of schools since 1978.
